Home > Notebook > In Delhi's Metro Do Not Touch The Trolleys Not Even With A Bamboo Stick

Tags:

All unattended or suspicious articles like briefcase, Bag, Toy, Thermos or transistor could be bomb. Next Station New Delhi.

They tell you on Delhi metro. Women's voice from the PA will tell you, that you should vacate seats for women, senior citizens and physically challenged, that you really should use SmartCard, and that before boarding the train you are supposed to let people get off…

Metro has three lines, just like in Prague. They have different colours though and they are called by their colours. Yellow, blue, red. All the stations are lookalikes and without PA you wouldn't know where to get off. Part of it is over ground.

People are unbelievable disciplined and everything is neatly organized. Everybody queques for jetons. Same on platforms – trains stop in exactly same place everytime and on the floor are painted arrows telling you the position of the doors. As everywhere in India there are absurd signs in the metro, telling you useful things. Such as: „Do not touch electric wires. Not even with metal rod or bamboo stick as it is likely to prove dangerous.“ For those who would like to experiment anyway it points out that „The trolleys are above the tracks.“ Curiously and in contradiction with my experiences in India I have seen no Indian touching the wires with bamboo stick.

Because terrorist are everywhere, when entering metro you have to go through metal detector. Nobody pays attention to its constant beeping. Then they wave around you with small metal detector and – as the propaganda flyer says – friendly frisk you. Bags are xrayed, just like at the airport.
