Lonely Planet says "… be prepared to compare Persepolis to better known sights such as Pyramids, Colloseum or Angkor Wat." I have not seen pyramids and Colloseum. It is not nowhere near as spectacular as Angkor Wat, however. But then it is true that Persepolis is way older than Angkor Wat and many of the reliefs there are awesomely well preserved.
