Home > Notebook > Tokyo Subway Is Lot of Fun

Tags:

One look at the plan of Tokyo Subway lines and I know that it is going to be no fun. And that at the same time it is going to be a lot of fun. Lines of Tokyo Metro and Metro Toei are swirling all over like noodles in a bowl of soup. Between them make their way thin lines of private railways and connecting suburban trains, Japan Railways, tram and monorails.

Tokyo subway stations are no marble tiled cathedrals of transport.

Buying a ticket is surprisingly low-tech. You find fare to your destination on the chart above ticket machines and then you just buy the ticket for correct price.

Heated Toilet Seats

Not only that traffic lights and parks talk in Japan. They have toilets with heated seats. Better models can even lift up the seat themselves. All have bidet that extends itself from beneath the seat when you press the right button. More

Akihabara: Electric Town And Otaku Central

Japanese girl, under twenty. Black dress and white lacey apron. French maid. With cat ears hairband. She hands me flyer and makes a curtsy. Says few words in Japanese that I don't understand. Her voice unnaturally high. As if she was a character from Japanese animated movie. I keep on walking. White noise metalic roar of pachinko parlour. Group of people hunched over crates of second hand manga on the pavement. Computers, game consoles, robots, cameras, gadgets. More
